Namco has announced that ‘We Love Katamari’ will be released exclusively for the PlayStation 2 later this year. The game is the sequel to last year’s Katamari Damarcy which proved to be a bit of a cult hit. The King of All Cosmos must please his fans and put more katamaris into the sky.

‘We Love Katamari’ – which is perhaps the strangest game title ever created – will play in a similar way to the original game and retains its unique graphical style. You must roll a big ball around various environments, picking up items such as underwater creatures, mountains and even the Eiffel Tower!

‘Katamari Damacy’ was the break-out hit of 2004 garnering tremendous accolades while delivering an innovative yet intuitive style of play to gamers,” said Yoshi Niki, Business Unit Director at Namco Hometek Inc. “We are hard at work on the second installment of this landmark series that will deliver a new level of originality and style that will have gamers shouting, ‘We Love Katamari!'”

New to ‘We Love Katamari’ is the cooperative mode, which allows each player to control a part of the massive rolling ball – as if the game wasn’t wacky enough in the single-player mode. No announcement has been made regarding a European release, but based on the original game’s critical success we expect ‘We Love Katamari’ to arrive in Europe at some point late this year.
