MW2 community frustrated at death of “casual CoD” due to strict SBMM system

The MW2 community has become increasingly frustrated with the game’s strict skill-based matchmaking (SBMM) system as it’s apparently causing the death of “casual CoD.” With the current SBMM parameters in place, every lobby that you get placed into is filled with “speed running corner jumpers” that make it impossible for you to aim your weapon, let alone get a kill.

Although a handful of new firearms and locations have been added to the Modern Warfare 2 Season 3 weapons list and maps list, this seemingly isn’t enough to get regular CoD fans back into the game again. Since SBMM likely isn’t going to be removed any time soon, these disappointed players have taken to Reddit instead to vent out their growing bitterness.

One particularly relatable Reddit post created by u/Signal-Top-7120 is further evidence of the community’s increasing annoyance with the present state of the game. In it, they say that they simply want to “boot up some CoD to decompress,” but that it becomes essentially impossible since they’re dead before they can even aim in.

However, they do understand that “this isn’t a CoD issue” because the game is what it is. Instead, they know that it’s their own problem because they don’t have the spare time necessary to commit to this game just to “git gud.” For this reason, they’ve apparently decided to uninstall the game and snap the disc in half so they can’t get back into it later.

Most players commenting under the thread would go on to agree with the post creator’s sentiment as the strict SBMM parameters have indeed made it difficult to play MW2 casually. Sadly, it doesn’t seem like Infinity Ward and Raven Software are planning on changing these guidelines anytime soon so we may indeed be seeing the death of casual CoD.
