Square Enix has revealed more details on Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition, the remade version of this year’s Lara Croft adventure heading to PlayStation 4 & Xbox One in January.

According to the publisher, the Definitive Edition will feature an “all new Lara model created to take advantage of the power of next-gen consoles,” as well as reworked lighting and shaders designed to “showcase the raw physicality of Lara’s journey”.

The game will also feature Tress FX hair technology, previously only included in the PC version of the game, rendering each strand of hair to deliver “realistic hair simulation and motion”.

Lara isn’t the only character receiving a makeover, though. Other in-game characters and enemies have also “been enhanced for added depth and realism”, with texture resolution said to be four times higher than those found in the existing Xbox 360 and PS3 versions.

Both PS4 & Xbox One versions will render at native 1080p, too, although the price may come as a shock, with Square setting the UK RRP at £49.99.

“Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition is so named as it’s exactly what we’ve custom built for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 system consoles,” said Crystal Dynamics executive producer Scot Amos. “The new hardware let us finally express the original vision in all of its glory. This was a continued labour of love. We pulled the game apart and rebuilt it with painstaking detail to add enhanced visual storytelling but without changing the award winning tale. The end result is a cinematic living world. We can’t wait for fans and newcomers alike to experience this rebuilt epic adventure.”

Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition launches in the UK on January 31, 2014.
