Capcom has announced that Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak has managed to ship 2 million copies worldwide in its first weekend.

The expansion to the latest entry in the series launched last Thursday for Nintendo Switch and PC. And it appears to have proven pretty popular with fans, even helping the main game reach a new milestone of over 10 million units shipped globally. That’s up one million since the last milestone reported by the publisher back in May of nine million. The figure was enough to add the game to Capcom’s prestigious ‘Platinum Titles’ list for games that had sold one million units or more.

The figure is also worth noting as the original launch for Monster Hunter Rise saw the game as a Nintendo Switch exclusive. By the time of this expansion, the game is also available on PC too with both platforms getting Sunbreak at the same time. The Monster Hunter series as a whole, meanwhile, is now up to 84 million units shipped as of July 2022. 2018’s multiplatform release Monster Hunter World accounts for 21 million of those units, holding Capcom’s all time record.

Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak adds a whole new region to the excellent base game, as well as new quest ranks, monsters and a good chunk of new story. We’ve not had chance to take a proper look at the expansion yet, but Josh really enjoyed his time with the base game. You can read his review here, if you like. It’s available now on the Nintendo Switch and PC.
