Here’s everything we know about Invasion mode in Modern Warfare 2.

What is Invasion mode in Modern Warfare 2?

Invasion mode pits two teams of 20 players against each other in a fashion similar to Ground War. However, the main difference is that there are also 20 AI teammates on each side, making for 40 players on a team.

Obviously, due to the sheer number of bodies on the field, this means Invasion mode can only take place on the larger maps in the game. However, this also means both sides have access to vehicles too.

There’s several control points on the map for each team to try and capture and hold – with whichever team is winning getting to spawn a little further forward each time.

Overall, the aim of the game is to be the first team to make it to a score of at least 1,000 points. There’s many ways to do this, which we’ll briefly go over.

It’s a large scale warfare which does feel eerily similar to Ground War, however at a smaller scale. That said, it is a great way to improve your progression.

How to score in Invasion mode in Modern Warfare 2?

Different activities will net your team a specific amount of points. Killing AI for example, only gets you one point. Destroying a non-lethal kill streak (EG, UAV etc) will net you two points.

Taking down a more aggressive killstreak (such as a chopper or VTOL) will net you three points, and then it’s a whopping 5 points for a human player or player-controlled vehicle, so clearly that’s where the big points are.

You’re also placed into squads of four – again, similarly to Ground War – encouraging you to support and work with your teammates to try and make forward progress.

Therefore, it pays to try and work together as a squad – and you can also spawn on each other as long as you stay alive to keep the frontlines moving in your favour.

Every so often, upgrades will also be dropped into the map for both teams as the match goes on. These include killstreaks and upgraded vehicles such as tanks – use these to your advantage.

What maps are in Invasion mode in Modern Warfare 2?

At the time of writing, there’s five maps in Invasion mode – the same five as Ground War. They’re massively expanded to their core multiplayer versions of course, so the playground is pretty substantial.

The maps include:

  • Sa’id
  • Sariff Bay
  • Santa Sena
  • Zarqwa Hydroelectric
  • Al Bagra Fortress

Modern Warfare 2 is available now on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and PC.
