Minecraft: Pocket Edition has sold over 700,000 copies since its launch, developer Mojang has revealed.

“We have sold over 700 000 copies. That is quite impressive, since the game was launched almost two months ago,” said Mojang’s Daniel Kaplan on Twitter.

The game originally launched as an exclusive on the Android-based Xperia Play in August, before getting a general Android release in October. The game hit iOS in November.

Upcoming updates to Minecraft: Pocket Edition will add crafting and survival.

While sales look impressive, Minecraft: Pocket Edition was part of an Android promotion in which apps were on sale for 10p. It would be interesting to know how many of the 700,000 copies were sold during this period.
