Xbox big cheese Phil Spencer has revealed Microsoft is unlikely to churn out its own Battle Royale game anytime soon.
Writing on Twitter, Spencer revealed that despite the enduring popularity of things like Fortnite and PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, he doesn't feel it's necessary for the format holder to jump on the same bandgwagon.
Millions are playing BR games right now. I don't want to just build one because others have built them. FNBR is massive, PUBG is huge, new BR variants being built by some very quality devs, I'd rather support unless we find something special in 1P that's a different take.

Big Phil's comments shouldn't really come as much of a surprise. After all, PUBG is currently a console exclusive to the Xbox One, so there's no reason why Microsoft would want to muscle in on its success when they're already onto a winner.
Still, it doesn't mean that one of their existing franchises won't receive a Battle Royale mode; there's already whispers that third-party games such as Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 and Battlefield 5 are going down this path, so anything is possible. Gears of War 5 or Halo 6, anyone?
