Recent news that The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess will now be released in 2006 shocked Nintendo fans the world over. Another anticipated title, Metroid Prime: Hunters for the Nintendo DS, has now also been delayed until next year.

The Nintendo DS shipped with a demo of Hunters which many people saw as one of the most enjoyable games at launch. Despite the limitations of the demo, the sharp visuals and great stylus control propelled the full game into ‘must have’ status for many DS owners, and news of further delays won’t make good reading for fans. The reason for the delay hasn’t been given, leaving it open to speculation.

Firstly, the game looked to be primarily a multiplayer deathmatch shooter, but had no support for Nintendo’s upcoming Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection internet service. This delay could well be to include online support. While nothing has been seen of it, the game is also set to include a strong single-player campaign. The extra development time could be used to strengthen this portion of the game so it can compete with its GameCube counterparts.

We’ll be sure to bring you more news on Metroid Prime: Hunters as soon as we hear any more from Nintendo.
