Metal Slug Tactics is a grid-based spin on on the classic Metal Slug formula, and it’s coming to PC.

During Summer Game Fest 2021, publisher Dotemu announced Metal Slug Tactics, with a madcap trailer.

Check it out:

The official description reads:

“Metal Slug Tactics reunites Marco, Eri, Fio, and Tarma as they lead the Peregrine Falcon Squad into a new battlefield through dynamic, strategic combat. Players wield classic METAL SLUG weaponry, leveraging skill trees, perks, and a super attack-fueling adrenaline system to outwit and demolish flanks of the series’ signature villains.”

If you have watched the trailer, then your ears are probably lightly smoking due to all the finger-fraying electric guitar. “Each mission’s heated battle is energized through original music by Tee Lopes,” says Dotemu.

(Lopes is behind the soundtracks for Sonic Mania, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge, and Streets of Rage 4’s Mr. X Nightmare DLC, to name a few.)

If you take Metal Slug, with its blurred infernos of fire and blood, and give it a grid and an isometric camera angle, what do you get? Well, something like Advance Wars, only darker and more eighties. If that sounds good, Metal Slug Tactics is for you.

What if you’re a Metal Slug fan? Perhaps more Metal Slug, in any form, is good news.
