Focus Home Interactive has acquired Leikir Studio, developer of the upcoming Metal Slug Tactics, it’s been announced.

The two companies made their union official this Valentine’s Day with a joint statement. Leikir will be the fifth studio acquired by the company, with other recent purchases Deck13 and Streum On. The statement didn’t note the terms of the deal.  It did note, however, that the upcoming grid-based strategy, based on the SNK series, will still be published by previous Focus acquisition, Dotemu.

President and founder of Leikir Studio Aurélien Loos had the following to say on the deal. “We are happy to join the Focus Group because it is an important step for the growth of our studio. This acquisition validates our multi-production strategy and will allow us to reach new qualitative and creative heights. This is a great recognition for the work accomplished by our teams over the past several years.”

Focus Home Interactive’s president, Christophe Nobileau added his own comments. “We are constantly looking for new talents capable of growing and supporting the ambitions of our Group, and Leikir Studio, headed by Aurélien Loos, is a choice acquisition to achieve this objective.”

Metal Slug Tactics was revealed last summer, during June’s Summer Game Fest 2021. The game takes the side-scrolling, gun-toting action of Metal Slug and puts it in a turn-based strategy akin to XCOM. Will Leikir Studio and Focus capture a similar magic? We’ll find out when it lands later this year on Nintendo Switch and PC.
