Almost everything about Insomniac’s Spider-Man sequel looks amazing with the pun fully intended. The gameplay is spectacular, the story promises to be emotional, and just web-swinging through New York City is a game-of-the-year experience. However, away from these positives, some fans are not particularly impressed with the Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 face models for Peter Parker and Mary Jane as seen with fans viciously roasting a new screenshot of the romantic pair.
The Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Metacritic score means Marvel still hasn’t dethroned DC for the best superhero video game of all time, but Insomniac’s sequel is still a masterpiece. In our review, we bestowed it with a perfect 10/10 thanks to a captivating story compounded by thrilling gameplay that, as the meme goes, truly makes you feel like Spider-Man. If you’re lucky enough to own a PS5, then you have one of the best possible experiences ready to enjoy over the weekend.
Still, while the game is widely considered a masterpiece, many webheads can’t help themselves from harshly criticizing the face models for both Peter and MJ.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 fans roast new Peter and MJ screenshot
A new Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 screenshot of Peter Parker and Mary Jane has been shared on Reddit. The new Mary Jane has been dubbed ‘ugly’ by some really harsh critics, and this new screenshot hasn’t won people over.
A common complaint is that Mary Jane looks much older than Peter, and this has resulted in funny comments such as the picture showcasing a ‘new image of MJ and her son’. Another commenter joked that it looks like ‘a picture of 39-year-old MJ helping her son Peter move into his college frat house‘. To continue the jokes, another user wins the comedy award with ‘I thought Aunt May died in the first game?’.
It’s not only Mary Jane that’s the butt of the jokes. Some users commented that ‘Peter’s neck looks huge,’ and that his ‘neck looks very thick compared to his head‘. Lots of fans still can’t jive with the new Peter face model because he has too much of a babyface for someone in their mid-twenties.
Away from the faces, there was also criticism of the graphics. Claims that ‘the hair appears to not be properly rendered,’ and that the lighting is poor. Some just feel the ‘character designs are laughably bad,’ and again many just prefer the original Peter Parker face model from back in 2018. For those not in the know, the original Peter face model was John Bubniac, but he was replaced by Ben Jordan in 2021. As for Mary Jane, her face model remains Stephanie Tyler Jones.
Jokes and gags aside, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 still promises to be a fantastic game for superhero and PlayStation fans. It has plenty of accessibility options to make it easier or harder, and it is available to preload on PS5 this very second provided you’ve pre-ordered.
