Eidos Montreal has released a new developer insight video for Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, this time focusing on the character designs for the infamous fivesome.

As described by art director Bruno Gauthier-Leblanc: “When designing the Guardians, it was important they remained true to the narrative we had built while still being instantly recognisable as the Guardians of the Galaxy fans know and love. We combined inspiration from Marvel comic lore with our own character backstories to craft new visuals for this fun and dysfunctional family, infusing each Guardian with specific design aspects that also tie into gameplay.”

First off, Star Lord is peppered with 80s references, in this universe cribbing the name from his favourite band. Then there’s Drax who is covered in tattoos tied to his combat history. Gamora’s design takes inspiration from her comic book counterpart, while Rocket & Groot’s close relationship infers their look. Their synergy even extends to Rocket being able to use Groot like a mobile turret.

Marvel’s Gaurdians of the Galaxy is currently set to launch on October 26, 2021. It’s heading for the Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and PC. A Cloud Version will also be coming to “select regions” on the same date.
