Marvel Snap is a brilliantly crafted card-strategy game that you could sink hours into if left unchecked. While the general gameplay loop of the mobile card game is a huge reason why the game is so successful, the game’s challenges and events are what keep players coming back as they offer more rewards and different ways to approach the game. However, Marvel Snap’s recent weekend challenge has left some players frustrated and bored.

Over the last weekend, Marvel Snap players have been able to take on the Rise of the Phoenix weekend challenge. While the challenges themselves are nothing revolutionary, one, in particular, has some fans disgruntled. One of the challenges for the weekend is to win 15 games with the Phoenix Force card starting in your deck. Do this and you’ll be rewarded with 150 gold. Gold can be a rare commodity in-game for those not looking to pay for it, so usually players tend to get on the weekend challenges as soon as possible.

However, taking to the Marvel Snap Reddit, u/dlifson noted that, “Grinding out wins with Phoenix is making me hate this game.” They continued by saying that due to the lack of in-game ways of collecting gold, they felt “obligated to complete the 150 gold weekend mission but Phoenix decks are awful right now.” Concluding they said, “This game used to be fun. Now it feels like work.”

While a number of players shared u/dlifson’s frustrations they also noted that building an entire Phoenix deck isn’t required. Instead, many have just been swapping out a card in their regular deck with Phoenix Force to get the challenge done. One player said, “I’ve just been throwing these weekend mission cards in an Agatha deck in Proving Grounds and hoping for the best.”

Others were also quick to mention that players shouldn’t force themselves to grind out a mission they’re not enjoying for the sake of 150 gold. One player said, “Be serious. It’s 150 gold. That has a street value of under $2.50 USD If you feel obligated to play because you want a $2.50 prize…. well…….. you might want to have some perspective about it. Play for fun. Or if it feels like work, don’t play. But they’re not forcing you to play by dangling $2.50 in front of you.”
