The Marvel game we all forgot about is back with a vengeance. Years after being made unplayable by Meta, VR superhero game Marvel Powers United is now playable again on PC.

Created by Asgard’s Wrath 2 developer Sanzaru Games, Marvel Powers United VR released in 2018. The game was killed in 2021 due to a low player count, but a group of dedicated fans have already brought it back.

Marvel Powers United VR returns

Via the Marvel Powers United Revival Project, the maligned superhero VR game is now playable again. While the original release was online only, the talented revival group has managed to detach the game from its online restrictions.

This means that the often-forgotten Marvel VR game can now be played in its entirety once again. Using a level select tool outside of the VR game’s executable, you can now experience everything the game has to offer. Well, outside of its multiplayer focus.

Furthermore, the game’s progression system still functions exactly as it did. As you play through missions, you’ll unlock new cosmetics for your favourite heroes and your progress is still saved.

While the lack of real multiplayer is still a shame, new players aren’t at a disadvantage. As Marvel Powers Unite already had AI companions for solo players, it’s an entirely playable game, and it’s amazing to see its return.

Is the game any good?

Marvel Powers United VR is far from the best VR game. As an early VR exclusive, the game is rather rudimentary. However, as a love letter to the Marvel universe, it’s a must-play for every superhero fan.

With over 20 playable characters and a handful of iconic villains to battle, the wave-based action game can be a tonne of fun. It’s not particularly deep, but when you’re webbing as Spider-Man, flinging magic spells as Doctor Strange or lobbing your shield as Captain America, there’s nothing else quite like it.
