Meta has finally revealed full Batman Arkham Shadow gameplay for Meta Quest 3. A brand-new VR sequel to the Arkham games, this new adventure finally puts you in the shoes of Gotham’s caped crusader.

Batman Arkham Shadow Gameplay

A new gameplay trailer released during Opening Night Live shows just how Arkham Shadow plays in VR. Played from a first-person perspective, you play as Batman on a hunt for The Rat King. As the Dark Knight, you’ll punch your way through hordes of goons in a perfect recreation of the classic Arkham combat system.

In the first actual gameplay trailer, Batman Arkham Shadow shows first-person punching, counters and batarang throwing. You’ll even keep an ongoing combo in your special Bat-HUD! Furthermore, you’ll also be able to engage in a recreation of Batman’s stealth combat.

In Arkham Shadow, you’ll be able to grapple up to high surfaces, perform stealth takedowns and even glide down to your foes. Furthermore, Batman’s iconic Detective Vision returns for even more immersive environmental puzzles.

Following Rocksteady’s Batman VR tech demo years ago, Arkham Shadow actually looks like the perfect VR experience. While the game is only available on Meta Quest 3, it may end up being a system seller for Meta’s awesome headset.

VR Only

Right now, Batman Arkham Shadow is a VR-only experience, and that doesn’t seem likely to change. Arkham Shadow has been built from the ground up for Meta Quest 3, and bringing the game to non-VR platforms would be a huge task for any developer.

While disappointing for fans who hate to move, Arkham Shadow is the first true Arkham successor since the release of Arkham Knight. After the disaster of Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League, this is the true return to Batman that fans have been craving.

Batman Arkham Knight releases exclusively on Meta Quest 3 in October 2024.
