Nintendo has announced that Mario Strikers: Battle League Football will get its first major free update this Friday.

The update will include new characters, new gear options, a new stadium and more. Headlining the update is the addition of two more members of the Mushroom Kingdom in Daisy and Shy Guy.

Daisy is a Technique-focused character, and her special ability means she’s impossible to knock down. Shy Guy, meanwhile, is very on-brand being an all-rounder. And fitting with his ability to take on a lot of roles in the Mario game, his stats will be hugely dependant on the gear he’s wearing.

Speaking of gear, the update also adds a new Knight set. Each piece will add points to your strength and shooting stats, making you a force to be reckoned with on the field at the cost of some speed. Finally, the update will also add a new stadium called Desert Ruin. You’ll be able to play on it in quick matches or set it as your club’s home ground.

Nintendo have also revealed via Twitter this won’t be the last free update for the game. There’ll be two more waves after this one, for a total of three. The next two will, like this one, also include new characters, new stadiums and more. Details on those will arrive closer to their release with all three landing before the end of the year.

You can check out a trailer for the update below. It arrives on Friday for Mario Strikers: Battle League Football exclusively on the Nintendo Switch.
