Nintendo has announced Mario Strikers: Battle League Football, a new entry in its football series coming to Switch this June.

Another announcement in that absolutely stacked Nintendo Direct, it’ll be the first entry in the series since 2007’s Mario Strikers Charged. Strike is the series name for Mario and friends to have a five-on-five kickabout, but with a twist. Namely that players can use devastating tackles and powers to get the ball in any way they can.

Expect electric fences, fireballs, Bob-ombs and plenty of chaos then, as you aim to score more than the other team. Of course, there’s items on the field to grab too, including banana peels, shells and more. Gear will also be an important factor, offering different stats to your player depending on what you equip.

Meanwhile on the field, each player will also be able to grab an Orb on the field and charge it up to activate a Hyper Strike. Any goals scored with this super-shot get you two goals for the price of one, so they’re well worth the risk.

Multiplayer is of course a huge part, with the game supporting up to 8 players on one Nintendo Switch console. Online games meanwhile will support friendlies and also offer players the chance to create a Club. Up to 20 people can be invited to join a club, so you can try and get your club to the top of the league table.
