It’s been declared that Kirby and the Forgotten Land has given the series its biggest launch in the UK ever.

GamesIndustry.biz has broken the news, reporting on the physical sales data from GfK. According to the figures, the game has sold 2.5 times the number of copies as the series’ previous record. That honour was formerly held by 2018’s Kirby Star Allies, which launched for the Nintendo Switch back in 2018.

Across the entire series’ lifetime sales, the latest adventure from the pink puffball is now the fifth biggest game in the entire series in the UK, at least. Those still ahead of it include Kirby’s Adventure Wii (AKA Kirby’s Return to Dream Land) & of course Kirby’s Epic Yarn. It has beaten 2015’s Kirby and the Rainbow Paintbrush from the Wii U.

The news puts the game at the top of the UK physical sales charts for this past weekend. That’s ahead of last week’s other big releases including Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands. Physical sales figures apparently haven’t been spectacular so far for that, with GamesIndustry.biz noting it’s not even managed 10% of Borderlands 3‘s 2019 launch sales. However, it’s worth noting that this is physical sales only, with digital ones not reported until later in the week.

Ghostwire Tokyo, meanwhile, hasn’t even managed to crack the top 10 & has to settle for 11th place. Again though, this is the physical charts and the last couple of years especially have seen a big pivot to digital sales. We’ll get a fuller picture when the digital sales are announced later this week. You can check out our verdict on that game over here.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land had its launch this past Friday for the Nintendo Switch. You can check out Josh’s early impressions of the game just over here.
