Square Enix has announced a new chapter in its much-loved Disney RPG series in the form of Kingdom Hearts IV.

The reveal came by way of a trailer at the end of a special broadcast to mark the 20th anniversary of the series. Square Enix has said that this fourth game will mark the start of a new storyline called the ‘Lost Master Arc’. The trailer also shows off what seems to be a new, more realistic art style for the series.

We open on Sora, who’s now in the Quadratum, described as a large expansive city introduced in the last game. That game introduced the city as a world not of light and dark, and seems to be based more on our world than the Disney-themed realms we’ve seen in the series so far. Any peace doesn’t last long, as what appears to be a giant Heartless starts terrorizing the city.

The trailer also gives us a brief glimpse at a new character the press release reveals as ‘Strelitzia’. We’re not told much about her, other than what we see in the video. Donald and Goofy do of course make their return at the end of the trailer, with a further off-screen character teased. The trailer closes with the game’s tagline: Magic in the Making.

And that’s it in the way of details so far. There’s no platforms or even a release window just yet, with Square Enix only disclosing the game is in ‘early development’. A mobile game, entitled Kingdom Hearts Missing Link, is also on the way later this year for iOS and Android. That aside, fans will have to wait with baited breath for more info on Kingdom Hearts IV. Until then, you can check out the trailer beginning at 4:05 in the video below.
