Sony’s February 2026 State of Play was a fantastic showcase featuring dozens of exciting titles coming to PS5 in the near and distant future. While there were plenty of promising reveals, announcements, and even shadow drops, one of the biggest highlights was the reveal of a new John Wick game. Following its explosive trailer starring Keanu Reeves, developer Saber Interactive has shared more details.
At the beginning of January, we reported on Lionsgate Chairman Adam Fogelson confirming that a new AAA John Wick game is in development. Lionsgate owns the John Wick intellectual property, and the chairman also revealed that a new game based on the Saw horror films is in development as well, though we have yet to see anything from Jigsaw.
There have been four John Wick films in total, alongside a spinoff titled Ballerina and a television series called The Continental. Lionsgate has been committed to expanding the IP’s universe, and now it is venturing back into video games, this time on a much larger scale.
The trailer revealed during Sony’s State of Play was largely CG, showing Keanu Reeves engaging in the realistic hand-to-hand combat fans have come to expect from the films.
However, at the end of the trailer, we were treated to a sliver of gameplay, showcasing the ability to mimic the action of the films yourself, including brutal moments such as stabbing a knife through an enemy’s eye and shoving them headfirst through a car window.
New John Wick game details revealed
Developer Saber Interactive has since shared additional details online. The studio’s portfolio includes acclaimed titles such as Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine 2 and World War Z.
While the new John Wick game remains untitled, Saber Interactive has reaffirmed that it is a AAA project with a large budget. The studio also confirmed it is coming to PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, and that it will be a single-player, third-person action game.
Although gameplay specifics remain limited, the developers say it features a “hard-hitting gun-fu combat system, jaw-dropping camerawork, intense driving experiences, cinematic storytelling, and a bold range of atmospherically immersive environments.”
As demonstrated in the trailer, Keanu Reeves is reprising his role as John Wick, returning with his “iconic character’s look, voice, and more.” If we had to guess, the “more” likely refers to motion capture work, which would explain why the combat looks straight out of the films.
Saber Interactive also confirmed that Chad Stahelski, director of all four films, is heavily involved. As for the story, it features an original narrative set before the Impossible Task, which is the elusive mission John Wick was ordered to complete before the events of the first film, so that he could retire from his life as an assassin.
The only John Wick video game released so far is John Wick Hex, a tactical role-playing game that launched in 2019, which also served as a prequel to the films. We awarded John Wick Hex an 8/10 in our review, but Saber Interactive’s upcoming release has the potential to be much better.
The acclaimed Sifu laid the groundwork for a martial arts-focused John Wick experience back in 2022, so hopefully Saber Interactive can deliver. As for Keanu Reeves, he is no stranger to video games after portraying Johnny Silverhand in Cyberpunk 2077, and we eagerly await to see if he will return in Cyberpunk 2077 2.
