With the release of the new The Witcher 3 Next Gen update, many fans are wondering if some of the new content will also be available on last gen and less powerful consoles, such as the Nintendo Switch.

Of course, the update includes plenty of visual improvements for those able to run the game on more powerful hardware, but there are also other additions; for instance the DLC based on the Netflix series.

Here’s what we know so far about the status of the The Witcher 3 Next Gen update as it pertains to the Nintendo Switch and last gen consoles.

Is The Witcher 3 Next Gen update on Switch?

While The Witcher 3 Next Gen Update won’t be on Switch in the same form as the version for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC – it will receive some of the updates.

As per The Witcher website talking about the next gen patch, “PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch will also receive an update – the specific patch notes and date will be announced at a later time.”

Presumably then, the patch for the Switch will include the new In The Eternal Fire’s Shadow mission, which will grant cosmetic rewards inspired by Netflix’s The Witcher series.

There’ll also be an alternative appearance for Dandelion – also inspired by the series – and quality of life changes such as a new default map filter.

Players will also be hoping for the inclusion of some excellent fan mods that have been made official, such as the Full Combat Rebalance mod, and fixing issues with existing quests like the Wine Wars.

At the time of writing, although the next gen patch is out on current gen consoles and PC, there’s no date for the update on Nintendo Switch. We’ll keep our ear to the ground, and update when we know more.
