How to get Splitgate 2 Alpha access – two ways explained

Splitgate is one of the best games that you’ve likely never played, and the good news is it’s getting a sequel. Splitgate 2 was announced last month as a continuation of the first game, but this time with a much larger budget and more features planned for the game.

For those that haven’t played Splitgate, it can be best described as Halo meets Portal, featuring fast-paced arena shooter combat with a unique mechanic that allows players to create portals to travel between two sections of the map, just like Valve’s iconic Portal series.

This adds a whole new layer of strategy to Splitgate that isn’t present in other games, with it being used as a means of travel, and escape route that can be closed to get you out of harm’s way, or to get a sneaky angle on your opponent and shoot them through the portal.

Think Portal meets Halo. Splitgate 2 is the follow up from 2019 Splitgate. It’s free to play, and lets you create portals to jump through whilst battling in arenas. The previous game had a decent following, but never really took off, so it’s interesting to see a sequel in the works. Perhaps it’ll be second time lucky…?

Although it doesn’t have a release date yet, 1047 Games is giving players a chance to play Splitgate 2 as part of its Alpha test (or, as they call it, a “Playtest”), which will be available between August 21-25.

How to get a Splitgate 2 alpha invite

There are currently two ways to gain access to the Splitgate 2 Alpha – both are simple and require little effort.

Method 1: Request access through Steam

• The first is to head to the Splitgate 2 Steam page
• Click the Request Access button to register your interest in the Alpha.
• If you are selected, you will receive a notification in the Steam program and the download will be added to your library.

Method 2: Watch Splitgate Twitch streams

• The second way to gain access is to watch Splitgate 2 streams on Twitch for two hours.
• This will grant you an Alpha key via Twitch Drops which can be accessed here.
