A new Helldivers 2 leak has revealed the return of the goofiest enemy from the original top-down game. With the Illuminate faction now wrecking the universe, developer Arrowhead is already working on future additions to the game.
As usual, renowned leaker IronS1ghts has shared the first hints at the return of a classic enemy from the original Helldivers game. Among other goodies, the leaker revealed that the classic Illusionist will be coming back.
Helldivers 2 Illusionist leak
In a recent tweet, the leaker shared an in-development look at the returning enemy’s “Droid Ball” attack. The new attack fires a small orb-like projectile and splits into multiple smaller hits if it misses impact. If the attack hits, devastating damage occurs.
In the original game, the Illusionist enemy sat on a big floating chair surrounded by a large shield. Imagine the Halo prophets but even goofier looking. For Helldivers 2, it’s not known if the enemy will get a major redesign. However, judging from the designs of every other in-game enemy, we would assume so.
Return of the Cultists
Alongside the Illusionist, IronS1ghts revealed that the Illuminate Cultists are also set to return in a future update. In a previous leak, Illuminate rituals were included as a mission objective, but they were not present in the game’s debut of the enemy faction.
However, in the files of Helldivers 2, the dataminer discovered an “Adept Mage Shockwave Ability” that is attached to the Cultist enemy type. This ability fires a small but powerful force field in close range to push back any Diver bold enough to attack.
Since the release of the Illuminate update, Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead has continued updating the multiplayer game. The game has now seen its first crossover, adding PlayStation’s Killzone franchise to the title, although that also saw a degree of controversy.
