Helldivers 2 could be the standout game of 2024. It was initially released with very little anticipation due to the first game being largely unknown by the larger gaming community. But, it quickly became one of the most played games on both PlayStation and PC, typically peaking between 300,000-400,000 concurrent players on Steam.

Its popularity shows no sign of slowing down thanks to the game’s regular updates, including the current community event which has seen players activate the Terminid Control Systems while also dealing with the new flying Shriekers. Despite the regular release of new content, Helldivers 2 isn’t completely smooth sailing as it still has its share of flaws and issues, with one needing some unusual workarounds and that is how to leave lobbies when you’re the host.

Players have taken to Reddit to voice their frustrations with trying to leave lobbies when they are the host. Currently, to do this you need to kick all of the members in the party to be able to leave the lobby. However, some players expressed their reluctance to want to do this as it forces players to leave the lobbies that might be enjoying playing with the other members. It seems like an unusual choice to not allow lobby hosts to leave and then the role be automatically assigned to another player. But, players have come up with some unusual methods to leave the lobbies without going through the tedious tasks of manually kicking players.

U/ThatBlastedWeasel figured out that is faster to force close the game and load back in than going back to the ship and manually kicking players, while u/Drae-Keer has taken the more traditional approach of unplugging the internet cable and then plugging it back in to force the lobby to empty as Helldivers 2 enters a brief offline state.

Some players prefer to jump into matches with new players each time rather than being stuck with the same teammates indefinitely, including u/DepletedPromethium, who made the suggestion to allow players to return to the ship and display a friendly message to their teammates such as “The host thanks you for your service,” or “You have done your democratic work for Super-Earth.” Arrowhead Game Studios has been very receptive to player feedback so this is a change that could be implemented in the future as a quality of life update.
