Helldivers 2 player count smashes records as Arrowhead accepts awards for Best Multiplayer

Arrowhead Studios’ Helldivers 2 is a phenomenal game and an entirely unique title in the current games market. After fixing the game’s difficulty and introducing a host of new stratagems, the multiplayer title has managed to beat past milestones as its player count soars.

Helldivers 2 player count confirmed

As the studio accepted four Golden Joysticks Awards for Best Multiplayer, Console Game of the Year, Best Game Trailer and Critics’ Choice at The Golden Joysticks 2024 ceremony, Arrowhead confirmed the current player count of Helldivers 2.

In a surprise reveal, over 15 million gamers have fought for Super Earth across PlayStation 5 and PC. While there’s no Xbox port available—at least for now—the game has still attracted millions of players in the fight for fictional democracy.

“Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you,” Arrowhead said on stage. “Starting this project eight years ago, I would not have believed being here today. Winning “Best Multiplayer” this year is the best thing for Arrowhead, and for all of Super Earth.”

“It’s amazing. Bringing 15 million players together, curing loneliness, bringing everyone together. This one is for Arrowhead, and everyone back home right now. I love you guys. Thank you.”

Far from done

With the massive success of Helldivers 2, Arrowhead is far from done with supporting the multiplayer game on PS5 and PC. With new mission objectives planned, and many more leaked, there’s still tonnes of life in the awesome co-op multiplayer title.

As the game finishes up its DSS storyline and moves towards the psychic threat of the often-leaked Illuminate, there’s so much potential for Arrowhead to keep the game going long into the future. While a Helldivers 3 is possible, especially as the studio investigates a move to Unreal Engine, we expect to see this brilliant sequel supported for a long time.
