For the past month or so, Helldivers 2 players have been battling Automaton and Terminid scum to protect the construction of the new Democracy Space Station. However, the ongoing storyline for the DSS has started to grow tired as players become fed up with the constant order shifts for the new station.
Is the Helldivers 2 DSS taking too long?
Following the last Major Order, Helldivers 2 informed players that “the DSS is now fully staffed, and the project has entered its final phase.” While the construction has essentially finished in-universe, there are still Major Orders to protect the station and nab resources for the Super Earth monolith.
However, as more Major Orders continue to pop up for the ongoing storyline, players are becoming disinterested in the constant new missions with little reward. Hey, it’s just like a real war.
The game’s most dedicated players have complained about the constant stretching of the DSS storyline, wishing it would just release. Still unconfirmed, it seems that the new Space Station is tied to the often-leaked Clans System, a feature fans have been waiting for since launch.
“Arrowhead is milking the absolute **** out of this arc and it’s actually getting annoying now,” one player said on Reddit. “Ooooh my goooodd. At this point I’m just gonna stop and go play something else for a while. I’m getting tired of the carrot and stick routine,” moaned another.
The story isn’t the focus
While the DSS storyline may rightfully be criticized for its constant “carrot and stick” approach, it’s not like Helldivers 2 has been solely focused on the space station’s construction since the narrative’s debut. In fact, the game has introduced new weapons, such as the hilarious WW1-era rifle, a new Warbond and even brand-new enemies to face.
Even within the main DSS storyline, other stories have emerged. For example, the terrifying Jet Brigade were introduced not just as a powerful new enemy type with some terrifying reinforcements on the way, but also as an awesome side story for the lore nerds out there.
Nevertheless, players are getting tired of the Democracy Space Station storyline and just want something new to focus on. With the game’s third faction, The Illuminate, now closer than ever after a host of new leaks, that could very well be players’ next big battle.
