Helldivers 2 has been a phenomenal success for both Arrowhead and Sony since its launch in early 2024. Finally, after several months of waiting for the full might of squids to attack, the Illuminate have invaded Super Earth, with players ordered to “obliterate” billions of them. Fortunately, it appears Super Earth soldiers are well up for the task as the Helldivers 2 player count has massively increased to reach its highest peak in a year.
Helldivers 2 player count reaches highest peak in a year
While a lot of Helldivers 2 players remained to keep fighting the battle against bugs and automatons, others left the battle for democracy. Fortunately, many of these players have returned to help thwart the Illuminate.
The Heart of Democracy update was released on May 20th, and Steam Charts shows that the player count on PC massively increased from the highest peak of 102,158 on May 19th to the highest peak of 163,581 on May 21st.
This is huge for the game as it’s HD2’s biggest peak in a year. The highest peak for the game still remains 458,709 when the game released back in February, and up to April 2024 the game was still managing peaks of 354,188. May 2024 saw a dive down to 125,825, and, since then, the game has largely been a rollercoaster, with the most significant peak of 150,169 coming in December, presumably for the first attack of the Illuminate along with the Killzone crossover.
Hopefully Arrowhead can continue this momentum. The developer has said that there will be multiple Major Orders against the Illuminate in the effort to not lose Super Earth, so all soldiers will be needed to keep repelling the enemy.
