Since Helldivers 2 update 01.002.201, there has been a lot of player complaints about the performance of the Eruptor. Some have feared the weapon is nerfed and most believed it is bugged, but, whatever the case, fans seem to agree that Arrowhead has ruined the weapon again. While the unanimous belief is that the Eruptor is bugged, a QA lead for Helldivers 2 has clarified that the weapon is actually not “broken” despite player complaints.
Helldivers 2 QA lead says Eruptor is not “broken”
Since update 01.002.201, there has been complaints about the Eruptor following the intended change listed below:
- Fixed an issue where shrapnel from surface-hits was forced in a roughly south-west direction. Shrapnel should now properly fly out in a 180-ish arc in the direction of the surface hit
Recently, on the Helldivers subreddit, OP p_visual shared an email response from Arrowhead’s Support Team saying the Eruptor issues are “something we’ve already investigated and fixed, just waiting to be pushed out in an upcoming patch”.
However, according to community manager, Baskinator, the “support agent made a mistake” as it “is not a bug, and the weapon is functioning as intended”.
Per QA lead JoJo, Arrowhead made changes in patch 01.002.201 due to “The Eruptor overperforming because of a glitch that caused its shrapnel to go in one direction”.
The QA lead said, “It now has a normal shrapnel spread. It does not bounce back and kill the player. So, it’s not ‘broken’, but it has been communicated to the balance people that folks liked the consistent damage”.
In a clarification about the shrapnel not bouncing back and killing the player, JoJo explained, “I mispoke a little. The shrapnel can hit you, but only at close ranges and it’s an explosive weapon so that is par for the course. What I meant was there’s nothing broken about the shrapnel spread”.
So, from the above messages, it appears as though the Eruptor is working as Arrowhead intends despite complaints from the community. Responding to JoJo’s comments on Reddit, a lot of players are vexed as they swear the weapon “doesn’t now deal with medium enemies consistently and kills the player and team mates more consistently,” and there is also a lot of confusion about why the weapon was considered as “overpowered” in the first place.
Since it’s “been communicated to the balance people that folks liked the consistent damage,” hopefully this is something that gets rectified in an upcoming patch. We already know the next hotfix should resolve issues with the Autocannon, but hopefully the Eruptor will be improved again, too.
