Arrowhead Studios’ Helldivers 2 is constantly being datamined or leaked, sometimes by the developers themselves. Popular leaker IronS1ghts, known for data mining updates of the multiplayer game, has discovered a wealth of assets for a potential urban environment setting in the game.
Helldivers 2 urban environments
In the current form of Helldivers 2, every mission is set on some form of expansive planet with large open lands and very little urban spaces. However, Arrowhead has been tinkering behind the scenes with development of urban environments, although they may never make their way into the game.
IronS1ghts took to Twitter to reveal that there are currently “dozens” of urban environment assets hidden in the game files. While earlier builds revealed City Center towers, there are even more objects in the game that may never been added proper.
The Helldivers 2 dataminer shared a render of a “Center Tower Globe Statue” that’s been marked as appearing on Super Earth. As we know, Super Earth can’t be accessed in the game, although it would be a fun hub for the game’s also-leaked Clans system.
“It’s hard to tell what they were doing with it (if it was scrapped, or simply unfinished), but there are dozens of Urban assets [in the game],” the leaker explained.
The Illuminate?
While it would be fun to engage foes in an urban setting, like an EDF map, there could be a lot of limitations stopping the addition of cities or suburbia in Helldivers 2. Furthermore, Arrowhead is currently hard at work on the development of The Illuminate, the third enemy faction for the multiplayer game.
After months of leaks, it seems that the new faction is actually ready to make its move. With leaked mission objectives and new renders of the enemy type making their way into the game, they will hopefully make their debut soon.
