Certain Affinity has announced it’s “deepening its relationship” with 343 Industries on ongoing development of Halo Infinite.

The company made the statement yesterday evening on their social channels & website. The studio has already been working on the Halo series for more than 15 years in a support role. However, that work seems to be developing further with the studio “entrusted with further evolving Halo Infinite in some new and exciting ways.”

What form this will take is unclear, though the studio is currently advertising for several Halo-related job roles. Reports back in January from Windows Central claimed that the studio was working on a new mode for the FPS. According to their sources, the mode is under the codename “Takanta”.

Allegedly, this purported new mode would be “newcomer-friendly’ though it’s not quite clear what form this will take. There’s two schools of thought doing the rounds, either a Horde-like mode, pitting players against AI or a Battle Royale to entice players of Fortnite and its ilk. With no confirmation from 343 Industries or Certain Affinity just yet, we’re left to speculate if this is indeed the case.

Certain Affinity is likely very busy while working on Halo Infinite, mind. Additional rumours around the same time claimed that the studio is also working on an Xbox-exclusive “Monster Hunter inspired” title. We’ll have to wait and see which, if any, of these rumours pan out.
