Rumours are abound that a new “Monster Hunter-like” game is in the works for Xbox at Halo Infinite support studio Certain Affinity.

The report comes from GamesBeat’s Jeff Grubb on his Grubbsnax show, and later corroborated by “separate sources” to Windows Central. According to them, the Xbox exclusive project is codenamed Project Suerte, and has been in development since 2020. The Monster Hunter nod implies the game will feature battles against big monsters, perhaps with a multiplayer element.

It seems to be very early days yet for the project. Certain Affinity announced that they were working on “a new original IP” game back in February last year. Windows Central’s report also claims that the game won’t even be revealed until 2023 and won’t launch until 2024.

Certain Affinity have worked on a bunch of big name games over the years. Most recently, this includes supporting 343 Industries on Halo Infinite. However, they’ve also worked on the Call of Duty series, DOOM 2016 and Crackdown 3. A 2019 report claimed that Certain Affinity were working on a concept for the next Bioshock game. However, 2K apparently scrapped the work of the Texas studio and instead established Cloud Chamber to work on a new Bioshock.

There’s no confirmation of this rumour from Microsoft or Certain Affinity at the time of writing. If the 2023 reveal claim is accurate though, expect to be waiting a while before we hear more.
