Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has been speaking on the challenges publisher Take-Two and developer Rockstar are facing creating Grand Theft Auto 6.

Zelnick was speaking to hosts Aarthi and Sriram of the Good Time Show podcast in an interview covering a range of topics – including the pressures of making a new entry in a consistently successful series such as GTA. “I think that’s a challenge the folks at Rockstar face every time there’s a new iteration of Grand Theft Auto. It needs to be something you’ve never seen before on one hand, and it needs to reflect the feeling that we have about Grand Theft Auto, and that’s a big challenge for the team.”

“Now, Rockstar’s answer is just to seek perfection,” Zelnick elaborated “Seek nothing short of perfection, and we’ll get there.” He continued “In the entertainment business we adopt our hits. They’re a part of us, they’re a part of our family and we have a great affinity for them and we take it personally if people screw around with them. It’s not okay if the creators make a choice that is inconsistent with how we think these hits should be developed.”

Using Civilization as another example of a long-running hit series getting a new entry soon, Strauss said “So every time we put out a new Civilization, there’s a meaningful change in the experience, and we’re always a little nervous about whether our audience is going to accept that change. But the creators at (Civilization developers) Firaxis have this incredible ability to move the franchise forward in a way that’s exciting but never to lose the audience when they do that. And they’ve done that over and over again – and I know they will in the future.”

Presumably, Strauss has a similar faith in Rockstar – but it’ll still be some time yet before we see what the team has in store for the new Grand Theft Auto game given it’ll surely want to keep things as under wraps as possible following leaked information last year after Rockstar was hacked. We might not be waiting too much longer to find out more though, as a financial call last week seemed to indicate GTA6 could be with us by this time next year. We’ll have to wait and see. In the meantime, make sure you’re sorted with the best laptop for GTA V for a good setup.
