Gran Turismo series producer, Kazunori Yamauchi, has revealed that the limited-time demo for GT Sport has surpassed 1 million players. The popularity of the demo was more than expected, leading to a number of server issues, and the game’s developer, Polyphony Digital, was initially overwhelmed by the surge of users.
Kazunori Yamauchi has revealed the reasons for the server problems in a series of tweets earlier on today, where he said that the unexpected amount of people trying to play had caused issues, prompting the team at Polyphony to reconfigure the servers. This would explain why I had issues trying to get into the game last night.
I was surprised to see over 1 million players off the bat in the Open Beta. #GTsport

The limited-time demo ran for 4 days before finally coming to a close this afternoon in the UK. Players had the chance to try out the Sport, Campaign and Arcade modes, as well as some of the tuning options that’ll be featured in the full game. All of the credit that was earned in-game (up to $1 million) will be transferred over when it’s released next week.
Gran Turismo Sport is out on PS4 on October 18.
