The last-gen console version will still look very good, but will be be parred down from the current-gen PS5 and run at a targeted 30 FPS, as per the first game.

The PS4 version’s 1080p image will also appear less sharp and detailed than the PS5 version, which runs at native 4K at a targeted 30 FPS. The good news is that for those looking to upgrade is there is a way of doing it.

Here’s everything you need to know about the God of War Ragnarok PS5 upgrade.

God of War: Ragnarok PS4 to PS5 upgrade

God of War: Ragnarok‘s PlayStation 5 version costs £10/$10 more than the PlayStation 4 version.

Unlike Horizon: Forbidden West which was free to upgrade from last-gen to current gen, God of War: Ragnarok will not be free. There will be a digital upgrade option from a disc or digital PS4 game to the digital PS5 version for an additional cost.

As per the PlayStation Blog, to upgrade you’ll need to buy the PS5 version for an extra $10 or currency equivalent. If you buy the PS5 version, it comes with the PS4 version included, which may make sense for those looking to upgrade at the end of the year.

We’ve done a short comparison between the PS4 and PS5 versions of the game below on our YouTube channel. We’ve tried to keep spoilers to a minimum by only showing footage from the first chapter of the game.

Despite the additional cost, as per our God of War Ragnarok review, the current gen version looks absolutely spectacular, so will almost certainly be best experienced on current gen PS5.
