God of War Ragnarok’s release date inches ever closer and a significant amount of players worldwide are itching to get their hands on the game.
Santa Monica Studio’s latest entry in their celebrated series has already received numerous glowing reviews – including here at Videogamer. This widespread praise has only increased the ever-growing hype surrounding the game even more.

But even though many are excited to start playing this latest installment, one question remains on everyone’s mind. Will this be the last installment in the franchise?
Will God of War Ragnarok be the last game?
According to the developers, God of War Ragnarok will be the last game in the series that features Norse mythology. Based on an interview from YouTuber KaptainKuba, creative director Cory Barlog and game director Eric Williams have revealed that it would roughly take them another five years to create another sequel. Because of the long production process, they decided to end Kratos’ and Atreus’ Norse adventure at Ragnarok to avoid a drawn out narrative.

Barlog and Williams also further discussed creature variety in the interview, noting that there wasn’t much enemy diversity in the previous game. They also confirmed that some of the opponents seen in the 2018 release will make a comeback this time around along with a few new scary faces.
Although this much is certain, Santa Monica Studio and Sony are yet to release any information regarding the follow-up to their series’ ninth installment. Further details for the next entry may be released some time after the game’s November 9 launch but for now, it looks like we’ll just have to enjoy the end to God of War’s Norse tale.
