Sucker Punch has announced multiplayer mode Ghost of Tsushima Legends is now available as a standalone purchase on the PlayStation Store.

Starting life as a post-launch add-on for Ghost of Tsushima, the standalone version has added new content over the past few months. Today, that also includes a new mode called Rivals. Teams of two will take on multiple waves of enemies, and try to defeat them faster than another pair. The first to ring the bell and defeat the final wave wins.

Over on the PlayStation Blog, the Sucker Punch team also gave an insight into creating the music for the recently-released expansion Iki Island. A series of vlogs tell how the expansion allowed the team to focus on Jin Sakai and his past. To that end, they made a new version of his theme using a Chikuzen-Biwa.

The team also speak on working with musicians from Japan, China, Nashville and LA. Of course, the global pandemic provided fresh challenges, as the musicians were unable to travel to one location for recording. The sixteen hour time difference also made recording remotely a challenge with the PlayStation Studios team in the US working with the sound engineering teams in Tokyo, Japan.

It’s a fascinating read if you’re interested in Ghost of Tsushima’s beautiful score. We really enjoyed the Director’s Cut overall and you can read Josh’s verdict just over here.
