Channel 4 has announced Sir Trevor McDonald will be taking on the role of the GamesMaster in their upcoming TV revival.

The role was originally played back in the 90s by Astronomer Sir Patrick Moore. McDonald will be taking the role in the three-episode project, which has already filmed. The veteran broadcaster has said “I am delighted to be taking on this iconic role for a new generation of viewers”.

McDonald will be joined on the broadcast by the show’s three presenters. They were named last month as Rab Florence, Frankie Ward and Ty Logan. The original role saw the GamesMaster taking questions from young gamer fans, and dispensing advice to get past tricky games. There’s no word yet if Trevor McDonald will also get the floating head treatment, we’ll have to wait for the broadcast to find out.

It’s been 23 years since the show was last on our screens, hosted by Dominik Diamond. There’s been no specific date yet for GamesMaster‘s return to our screens. However, the reboot will first be shown on E4’s YouTube channel before its broadcast on E4 itself later this year. There’ll be three episodes of the new GamesMaster at sixty minutes each, with the project sponsored by Oculus Quest 2.
