Fortnite’s player count has always been interesting to watch. The popular videogame started off strong, getting millions of players within a couple of days. In 2023, Fortnite has more than 500 million registered users, which is an impressive number.
Ever since Chapter 2 came out, many players believed that Fortnite had lost its popularity. While the game certainly isn’t at its peak anymore, it’s far from a dead game. Not only is it still very popular, but it’s still at the top of the battle royale genre as no other game has been able to dethrone it.

Fortnite’s player count is still impressive in 2023
Despite being in its seventh year, Fortnite is still very popular. Epic Games released the public player count a few months ago, allowing everyone to see how many players play Fortnite at any given moment. The number peaked at 2.81 million in the first few days of Chapter 4 – Season 4.
Fortnite’s concurrent player count stays at 1 million or more at almost any moment of the day, which shows how popular the videogame still is. Apex Legends and Warzone 2 are both great games, but can’t even get close to dethroning Fortnite.
Interestingly, Epic has released no live event since activating the public player count. Fortunately, it appears that a new Fortnite live event will be released later this year, possibly in November. If this happens, we expect the player count to peak at 8 million or more players.
Despite laying off more than 830 employees recently, Epic Games will keep developing Fortnite and trying to make it even more popular. The battle royale mode won’t suffer from the recent layoffs, and the company will stick to releasing Season 5 and Chapter 5 in a timely manner.
