The most recent Fortnite update was released on Tuesday, December 19, and our patch notes reveal everything that came with it. The update was rather small, but it brought several game-changing features, including movement buffs.

Epic Games released the most recent patch to address some of the biggest issues with the game. This Fortnite update will also be used to prepare the game for future content, which will arrive later this month.

Today’s Fortnite update changed the movement speed

With the release of Fortnite Chapter 5, Epic Games implemented new movement animations. On top of this, the development team changed the walking and crouching speed. While new animations look amazing, many players complained about moving too slowly. Due to this, dying in the storm was a common problem in the first few days of the new chapter.

Epic has changed the storm, making it slower and more forgiving. However, this hasn’t fixed the issue. Fortunately, the latest update has brought a movement speed buff. Players will now move much faster while walking, but the new animations will also stay in the game.

Besides the walking speed, crouching speed was also buffed, while camera movement was reduced.

Besides the movement, the latest Fortnite update brought back the Icy Grappler. This is one of the best mobility items in Chapter 5 – Season 1, and there’s no doubt that many players will use it to move quickly over the island.

The most recent Fortnite patch notes also include a couple of interface changes. Epic has added missing icons for several LEGO Fortnite styles, including Champion Kyra and Crackshot. Furthermore, the Locker now properly shows backgrounds of all rarities in the game, including the Icon Series.

Here are a few more changes that arrived with the Fortnite update:

  • Society Medallions are now easier to spot
  • Certain areas of the map are now brighter during the night
  • The visibility of the Storm’s edge has been improved
  • Frenzy Auto Shotgun and Thunder Burst SMG now have distinct weapon icons

Finally, the Fortnite update today fixed several bugs, including the issues with unarchiving cosmetic items, gifting the Battle Pass, and losing items in LEGO Fortnite.

Considering that the Fortnite update was small, it’s no surprise that the server downtime only lasted less than two hours. However, a bigger update will come out later this month, either on Thursday or next Tuesday. This update will bring new cosmetic items, balance changes, and a lot of other content.
