As rumours continue to swirl that Fortnite’s next chapter might see the game return to where it all began, the game’s social media accounts may have just dropped the biggest hint yet that the battle royale will indeed be returning to Chapter 1.

Many of the game’s fans have noticed that the game’s official Fortnite Twitter/X account has changed an important piece of information on its profile – specifically, the date July 12, 2018 is now fairly prominently displayed. However, while you may expect to see a date on the Joined section, instead this date is given as the account’s location. In case you’re wondering the significance of the date, that’s actually the same day that Fortnite officially launched Chapter 1 Season 5.

Fortnite's Twitter account teases Chapter 1 return.

There’s a couple of key reasons why choosing this particular season has fans’ intrigue piqued, as that Season was known as the ‘Worlds Collide season’ and saw the game’s island ‘colliding’ with other realities. It looks like it also jumped around the time stream – because now it seems it’s set to collide with the game’s 2023 map. And just in case you need some more puzzle pieces to fit in – it turns out this is the same date the Time Machine that recently turned up on the island in-game itself is set to as well, which further cements the prevailing theory amongst the Fortnite community.

Of course, Epic are still keeping tight lipped for now as they tease out what’s in store for the future of Fortnite over the coming weeks. In the meantime, we’re right in the midst of the Fortnitemares 2023 celebrations, which just welcomed Alan Wake into the battle royale fold. Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 4 is scheduled to end on November 3, so it’s likely we don’t have long to find out if all this sleuthing by the community will be proven accurate.
