Fortnite creators have been fortunate enough to monetize their Creative islands. Epic Games released Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN) in March this year while also introducing a new way for creators to make money from their maps. Ever since then, the company has paid out extravagant amounts of money.
Creative mode is very popular, which is why it makes sense for Epic to invest in it. According to the company, Fortnite players spend more time in Creative maps than in other modes. Unfortunately, Epic has a lower profit margin in this mode, which was likely a factor for the recent layoffs.

Making money from Fortnite has never been easier. Thanks to UEFN, all you need is a great idea to become a millionaire. On top of that, Epic Games grants up to $500,000 to kickstart new UEFN projects and Creative maps. These grants are available to everyone, and creators can apply for them anytime.
According to the company, Fortnite creators have received more than $120 million so far from UEFN. Considering that the tool has been active for only half a year, this comes down to approximately $20 million per month.
This interesting detail was revealed during Unreal Fest 2023 and it shows how profitable the video game is. Considering that some Fortnite creators became millionaires in just a few weeks, this comes as no surprise. However, it’ll be interesting to see if Epic Games can sustain this.
The company has big plans for UEFN, which is why we expect a lot of third-party content over the next few years. Fortnite Battle Royale will not suffer from the recent layoffs, which makes sense considering it’s the most profitable game mode.
