Some work in progress screenshots of the upcoming Yakuza 8 have appeared online thanks to one of the game’s new stars.
The images were first reported by Famitsu and brought to our attention by Nibellion. Ryu Ga Gotaku Studio invited Japanese mixed martial arts artist Mikuru Asakura to tour the studio. Asakura, it turns out, will be playing a new character in the latest game, and documented his visit to YouTube.
During his time, Asakura got to see behind the scenes of the as-yet-untitled sequel. We already knew Like A Dragon protagonist Ichiban Kasuga was returning from previous comments. However, it appears he’s traded in his trademark afro for a new tied-back style.
We also got a glimpse at some other returning characters in the video including Yu Nanba and Koichi Adachi. Of course, there wasn’t much given away about plot or specifics, but it’s very exciting nonetheless. Towards the end of Asakura’s video, he’s invited to take on an as yet undisclosed role. We’ll have to wait and see what that role is, of course.
It’s still very early days for Yakuza 8 at the moment, so we don’t know when we should expect it. We were big fans of Yakuza: Like A Dragon though, so we’re very much looking forward to finding out. You can check out Asakura’s full behind the scenes tour (in his native Japanese, of course) below.
