Supergiant Games have announced that the first patch for Hades 2 is inbound, though a specific date hasn’t been alluded to yet. Thankfully, the announcement has addressed a vague outline of what to expect. For anyone who has been having issues with Melinoë’s movement, that’s all about to change shortly.

According to the announcement, several hotfixes have been rolled out since the game was launched into Early Access, though Supergiant had not paired these with patch notes since they were minor changes. The patch announcement alludes that the Hades devs are going to be focused on a “smooth gameplay experience,” which aligns very well with the specific changes they’re going to implement. This includes the following:

Resource Gathering: We want Hades II players to focus on goals that are important to them, though don’t want resource gathering to feel too frustrating, such as if you didn’t bring the right gathering tool along for the ride.

Getting Around: It’s important to us that Melinoë have her own distinct style, and for players to be able to navigate her battles and other interactions in a nimble, responsive, expressive way. We have ideas for how to improve her Dash and Sprint.

Our first patch will likely have a few other enhancements and fixes, and we’ll have comprehensive patch notes when the time comes. So stay tuned!

While for many resource gathering had not been an issues, plenty of players returning to the House of Hades found issues with Melinoë’s dexterity. Coming over from the first game, Zagreus’ dash was extremely fast and responsive. Hades 2’s main character is far less dextrous than the first title’s protagonist, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, though the complaints about movement are justified in that Melinoë feels slightly incomplete at the moment.

Of the best weapons in Hades 2, the Sister Blades have been the most prolific so far. They are fast, aggressive, though they leave you extremely vulnerable due to the close-range nature. Dashing out of hairy situations is not always possible with them, despite the lengthy i-frames that Melinoe has. On top of that, there’s a slight cooldown that prevents the Zag-Dash-Spam prevalent in the first game. From the looks of things, the patch is going to tune Mel’s movement, but it’s not going to revert it to Zag’s style.

Much of the Hades 2 community’s complaints about Mel’s movement have asked for this style to be reintroduced, though my two cents is that I’m glad this game feels and plays different enough. Honestly, I’d have been disappointed if you could just zip in-and-out like Zagreus does, and it fits in-theme with the fact that Mel is a witch, rather than a fast brawler.

There are going to be changes made to Mel’s Sprint too. There’s been a few moments where I’ve been at top speed with Sprint arcana activated, and it almost becomes unresponsive at times.

The next Hades 2 patch will come within the next month, though an exact date hasn’t been confirmed yet.
