A Final Fantasy VII Remake demo is out now on the PlayStation Store, and showcases the game’s Sector 1 Reactor mission (via VGC).

Square Enix elected to postpone the launch of Final Fantasy VII Remake, so that it gets the attention it deserves to become the essential experience of the classic game. “We are making this tough decision in order to give ourselves a few extra weeks to apply final polish to the game and to deliver you with the best possible experience. I, on behalf of the whole team, want to apologize to everyone, as I know this means waiting for the game just a little bit longer,” said producer Yoshinori Kitase. Delays are almost always a blessing in disguise, and the scope of the Remake is simply incredible.

The game’s aesthetic is not the team’s only focus, as certain content has been adapted to pull it inline with modern expectations. The dress-up scene now takes place in a cabaret club, and although Cloud struggles with his new look, a character tells him, “True beauty is an expression of the heart, a thing without shame, to which notions of gender don’t apply.”

Moreover, composer Nobuo Uematsu returns for the Remake, making this his latest credit on a Final Fantasy title since Final Fantasy XIV in 2010. The delay affected the game’s exclusivity agreement, and it will now remain exclusive to the PlayStation 4 until April 10, 2021. Square Enix is looking to port the game to the next generation, but it’s possible that we’ll get a PC port, too.

Final Fantasy VII Remake will launch for the PlayStation 4 on April 10, 2020. Watch the announcement trailer for the demo below.
