The September update to Final Fantasy XV has gone live, and it adds another new event, this time to Chapter 12. According to the game’s Twitter account, this new event will explain ‘the events that led to the War of the Astrals’.

In FFXV the Astrals, also known as the Six, are huge immortal beings that were worshipped as gods. In the game the player, as protagonist Noctis, has to face their trials to form a covenant with them. This often involves extremely large scale battles, and at least one (1) city is largely destroyed. The War of the Astrals, however, took place thousands of years before, when one of the Six decided humankind had gotten too uppity, and the other five turned against him to protect the planet. If you can’t wait to play it yourself, you can see most of the new story cutscenes on YouTube already.

In less lore heavy news, the update also ends the Moogle Chocobo Carnival, adds two new types of fish for Noct to catch, and fixes some bugs, including some invisible walls in the Assassin’s Festival.

This isn’t the first time Final Fantasy XV has added content to flesh out the story, and a survey from a few months ago indicated story content is something the team has on its mind.
