Rumours are abound that EA will be reviving their popular Fight Night boxing series in the near future.

According to Video Games Chronicle, who cite “people with knowledge” of EA Sports’ plans, the new game is currently codenamed ‘Moneyball’. The project is said to be in the early stages of development, however work has apparently already been paused. It’s said that this is so that EA Canada can focus on releasing the next EA Sports UFC game by the end of 2022.

VGC say they’ve also seen a studio-wide email informing EA Canada staff of the decision to focus on UFC 5. “We’re very excited about UFC 5,” it reads, “and we want to eliminate the split focus that several members of our leadership team have had over the past while so we can solely focus on delivering migration and UFC 5 at high quality.”

The last entry in the series was 2011’s Fight Night Champion for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Our reviewer Martin Gaston scored it a 7 at the time. He said: “Fight Night Champion‘s core mechanics still do a good job of imitating the sweet science, but EA could have done with a longer rest before getting back in the ring.”

EA are yet to comment on the rumour, so it’ll probably be some time before we get confirmation. For now, we’ll have to wait and see if Fight Night can indeed come back for another round.
