The World Cup is drawing to a close, and what a great month of football it has been. There have been upsets, remarkable performances and players making their name on the most watched stage in the world.

With the final around the corner it’s time to take a look at the official Team of the Tournament that has been released into FIFA 23. It is an incredible squad, representing many teams from the tournament. Although, there are a few surprise inclusions in there too.

FIFA 23 World Cup Team of the Tournament Release Date

The latest promo in FIFA 23 is set to release on the 16th of December, two days before the final game of the World Cup.

The reason why we think this new content will be released on the 26th, is because EA traditionally always releases new promo content on a Friday, so this sticks with that schedule. This will likely be a one week promo as the tournament is drawing to a close.

Much like the release date, we know to expect the new squad to drop at 6PM GMT / 1PM ET / 10AM PT. Once again, as long as there are no issues then this the time FIFA always releases new players and content. 

FIFA 23 World Cup Team of the Tournament Leaks

Not many players have leaked so far, but here is a list of all the players who have:

  • Lionel Messi (Argentina/PSG) – As it stands Messi in on track for the top playmaker, top goalscorer and player of the tournament so his inclusion to this promo will be a surprise to now one
  • Phil Foden (England/Manchester City) – Phil Foden being in the team will come as a surprise to many, especially considering the tournament his teammates like Bukayo Saka and Harry Maguire have had.
  • Cody Gakpo (Netherlands/PSV) – Gakpo was one of the shining lights of the group stage, scoring some crucial goals and helping the Netherlands reach the quarter final, were they fell to finalists Argentina.

  • Casemiro (Brazil/Manchester United) – Without Casemiro this Brazil side would have really struggled. The attacking riches Brazil had on offer were second to none, but it needed Casemiro so it could function.
  • Sofyan Amrabat (Morocco/Fiorentina) – What tournament it has been for this man. He expertly shielded the Morocco defence, and was one of the key reasons as to why they went so far in the tournament.
  • Harry Kane (England/Tottenham Hotspur) – Harry Kane may not have scored as many goals as we have come to expect from him this tournament, but creatively there were few better than him. He managed three assists for England in just five games.
  • Yassine Bounou (Morocco/Sevilla FC) – Amrabat was responsible for stopping the opposition from breaching the defence, but if they did they still needed to get past Bonou which proved nearly impossible as he kept 4 clean sheets.

  • Josko Gvardiol (Croatia/RB Leipzig) – It will come as no surprise that Gvardiol has been included in this team, he was one of the stand out youngsters at this World Cup. It’s likely we will see him receive a big move in the not too distant future.
  • Denzel Dumfries (Netherlands/Inter Milan) – The Netherlands wing-backs do a great job of adding an extra dimension to the Dutch attack, Dumfries perfectly demonstrated this time and again during the World Cup to earn his card at rb.
  • Kylian Mbappe (France/PSG) – Mbappe has, as expected, been sensational for France. His two goals against Poland perfectly demonstrate why he is so dangerous. Get ready for a card that will still be a nuisance come Team of the Season.
