Uppercut Games has announced EPOCH for iOS Devices, due for release in Q4 2011. The action-combat game is said to feature intuitive swipe controls, cover and dodge mechanics, mechanical enemies and bolt-on upgrades taken from fallen enemies. What’s more, the game will make use of the Unreal Engine to deliver, as the developer puts it, “visually stunning and highly detailed 3D graphics”.

But why should you care about another new iOS game? Well, Uppercut Games was formed by staff who previously worked at Irrational Games on Bioshock, Tribes: Vengeance and Freedom Force. Hopefully some of that quality will come through in EPOCH.

From the first footage of the game there doesn’t appear to be much in the way of forward movement through the levels, with the robotic main character jumping between cover spots and shooting at targets in the distance. Visually it’s smart, but hopefully the game isn’t a shallow shooting experience.
