The original Empire Earth was one of the first (and more successful) attempts at taking Civ-style gameplay into the 3D real-time strategy arena, where you would lead your people through thousands of years of history, from the Stone Age to the near-future, with global domination your ultimate aim. A requisite expansion pack was duly produced, which fleshed things out, and then all went quiet. Rise of Nations came along and stole EE’s thunder, adding more strategic depth and new play mechanics to the mix. So what can Empire Earth II do to reclaim the crown?

The official press release promises us over 12,000 years to play around with, over 500 unique units and buildings, changing seasons and weather that actually has an impact on events, and a revolutionary new command system, including an innovative War Planning System. Numerous multiplayer modes (9) are also bundled, which encompass both co-operative and competitive modes.

The game will hit North America on 26th April, but no European release date has yet been announced.

If that has whet your appetite, head on over to the official website for more screenshots, downloads and info.
