The news, which was confirmed by the company today, comes hot on the heels of the cancellation of consumer show Game Zone Live, which was scheduled to take place at the beginning of Spetember. This leaves the UK gaming event calendar decidedly bare, with the loss of these major annual events.

The cancellation of ECTS (European Computer Trade Show), had been rumoured for some time, and did not come as much of a surprise, what with the recent decline in the event’s popularity and quality, coupled with the migration of any major announcements to both E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo) and CES (Computer Electronics Show). However, the loss of the comparatively successful GDCE (Game Developers Conference Europe) has proven a much bigger shock to the industry, as it has been receiving resoundingly positive press coverage since it started, with popular speeches and round-table discussions from industry luminaries such as David Braben, Jez San, and Peter Molyneux.

This now leaves only two trade events on the UK calendar – EIEF (Edinburgh Interactive Entertainment Festival), and the apparently still-going-ahead EGN.
